Why did you start Design with Haven?Design with Haven was started out of a need to have more information for the design of your bathroom project. As a contractor, we repeatedly had projects where the finer details were not determined, which delayed the project and left room for errors. Above all, we aim to make professional design services available to everyone.

What is the biggest expense in a bathroom project?Besides labor, the biggest expense can be any luxury upgrade like a beautiful freestanding bathtub, bidet toilet or designer tile.

What is the average cost for a bathroom project?In 2023, the average bathroom project cost was approximately $12,000 - $15,000. There are many factors that go into the cost of your bathroom, including your location, size of your bathroom, and the quality of materials used. A large primary or luxury bathroom can cost in upwards of $35,000. Having a style and budget in mind will help guide us to the types of materials we’ll use for your project.

What percentage is labor for a bathroom project?This figure will depend heavily on the quality and quantity of materials and products selected. On average, the labor component will be anywhere between 40% - 60% of the project cost.

How long does a bathroom project take?Depending on the size and extent of your project, the construction aspect will take between 3-6 weeks, with 4 weeks being average. We highly recommend having all finish materials at the home prior to starting so you’re not waiting on materials to arrive. At Design With Haven, we gather all of your materials and products, checking for quality and quantity before delivering to your home.

How to plan a bathroom project?The best way to start a bathroom project is to gather a few images of bathrooms styles you like. We’ll use those images, along with the information you’ll provide in our questionnaire and free consultation to create your new bathroom style and vibe.

What is the hardest part of a bathroom project?The hardest part of a bathroom project is experienced during the design and planning stages, determining the sizing and style of fixtures and finishes. At Design with Haven, we are experts at putting together combinations that will work in your actual space, providing plans for your contractor, and photorealistic images of what your bathroom will look like when it’s completed.

How often should a bathroom be redone?A generally accepted rule of thumb is to remodel your bathrooms every 7-10 years, depending on style and usage.

What is the number one priority for a bathroom project?Waterproofing! The most important part of your bathroom project is keeping water from getting into walls and floors.

What is the most frequently requested upgrade in your designs?We are getting a lot of requests for bidet toilets with heated seats! Double vanities are another popular upgrade, offering more utility for busy families. For primary bathrooms, freestanding tubs with features such as heated jets or massage bubbles are becoming more frequently requested.

Can you recommend a contractor?We recommend working with contractors that you, your family, friends or neighbors have had success with in the past. There are many online websites such as Nextdoor, Angi, Thumbtack, Realm, Houzz, Sweeten and others that will link you to contractors in your area. Most of these services receive a fee when the contractor has been awarded your project, so it’s important to check references with other previous clients they have worked with. It is vital that you do not skip this important step!

Can you help if we need a permit?Yes! We’ve partnered with PermitFlow to streamline the permit submission process. They will use the plans we create to submit your permit accurately. This means a quicker approval with your town or city, saving you time, reducing errors and resubmissions during the permit process. Please contact us to learn more.

Can you send samples of the actual products we’ve selected?As part of our design fee, we provide a virtual sample board. For a small fee, we can send you a physical sample board of the material pallet so you can see the materials in your space. Rest assured, we check all material color and texture combinations in person by our team of expert designers before sending you our photorealistic renderings of your new bathroom.

What items and materials do we provide?We specify and can provide tiles, plumbing, decorative lighting, vanities and countertops. We can also help with bath accessories like towel hooks or bars, toilet paper holders, and other accessories.

What items and material do we not supply?We do not supply any of the rough construction materials for your project. Some examples include: drywall and drywall setting materials, insulation, pipes, wiring, tile glue and grout, etc. We will recommend a paint color and finish but we do not supply the paint color and finish. The rough materials should be provided by your contractor during construction. We do not supply shower glass because in many cases the size of glass you require for your shower or bath will be a custom size.

What should we look for when choosing a contractor?The most important quality to look for in a contractor is honesty and transparency. Avoid working with contractors who provide a bid scribbled down on a piece of scratch paper, or who are difficult to get on the phone. Ideally, you hire a contractor that you have worked with previously, or have been referred to by a trusted friend, family member or neighbor.

What is the best way to check for contractor references?The best way to check for references is to call at least 3 references from each builder. Ask detailed questions such as, “Were they easy to communicate with?” and “When an issue came up, how they handled it?”

What is our return policy (restocking fees)?We charge a restocking fee of 25%, buyer to pay return shipping cost.

What if I don’t like a product?Products that are in brand new condition and have not been installed may be returned with a 25% restocking fee, buyer to pay return shipping cost. We can offer alternate products if necessary.

What if a product is damaged or missing?We meticulously inspect all items for quality and quantity before they are delivered to the job site. In the rare event of a missing or damaged item, please notify our team within 24 hours of delivery, along with photo documentation to hello@designwithhaven.com.

What if I don’t like my design?We are confident you will love your design! If not, we can revise your plan and make changes based on your feedback.

How many times can I revise my design?We are confident you will love our curated design, but if for any reason you are not satisfied, we offer one free revision. Additional revisions are billed at $250/per revision, which also includes updated plans and photorealistic renderings.

Can we keep our existing vanity and countertop, or update the vanity by re-facing?Yes, you can keep your existing vanity. To model your vanity in our design plans and photorealistic renderings, we need the size and 2-3 clear photos of the vanity and countertop to be reused. We do not offer re-facing of vanities.

What if my contractor damages the materials?If your contractor damages your materials, they should be responsible for replacing them. Let us know what was damaged along with the quantity, and we can prepare a replacement to be sent out as quickly as possible.

What can I expect in terms of cost?When considering total expenses, it's important to account for freight, receiver fees, labor costs, contractor fees, materials, permits, and any unforeseen expenses that may arise throughout the process.
